Ok, i re-jetted my carb yesterday with lancers kit....HOLY HELL...what a pain in the ass that was. At 1sst I couldn't get enough room, then when I got the carb off, I stripped the idle jet and needed to get it out via penetrating oil and a extractor. Got the replacement in fine. Put everything back together and WTF! it was SOOOOOO hard getting that carb back in. I spent about an hour trying to get it back in. I eventally took off the 2 screws to the gas tank under the seat and propt up the seat to give a little more room. Between that and using ALL my force to get the carb back in, I was able to and the air tube which was another pain in the ass but not nearly as bad.

Now the questions:
1. How do you take off the gas tank? The link of the how to is broken. I suggest some one should make another to help a motorcycle noob like myself out.

2. If I wanted to get an air cone filter, when I take out the air box, what to people do with items like the computer (or what seems to be the computer)?

3. The Breather tubes that are on the carb: There is one on the left side and one on the ride side. They arent connected to anything besides the one end on the carb, are they? They fell out when i disconnected them from the carb and took the carb out and they don't look like they were connected to anything, but I would like to make sure.

4. I was also messing about with the exhaust. I have a dyna exhaust and where the exhaust is supported by the from, it looks like the muffler should have a screw or nut there to slide on. Do I just find a screw that works or does the dyna muffler get supported just by sitting there and the clamp?

after you remove the seat,fuel line,speedo cable(dont lose the o ring!) straddle the bike lift and pul lil to your left,disconnect the electric cable and you can set the tank down out of your way be mindfull of the petcock...back on is fun too,done it a dozen times still a pain..
RECONNECT those 2 tubes run them up each side of the frame to under the tank they vent the carb..
need to fab a support for the muff, there are chrome clamps and/ or straps you can use, a lil bending(of your fabbed strap) and you wont have to drill the oem arm where the stock muff was mounted..

Whew!...You've had a booger of a time!...Welcome to the world of WTF motorcycle repair.
By "RECONNECT", Thumperclone means, those two hoses connect to nothing.  They are just vent tubes and need to be higher than the carb, open to air.  They loop up to the frame under the tank....
Frustrating...but you did it!

But good, cause thats what I did.

I Drain the tank, but don't remove the petcock.

I like the weight of an empty tank.

Do you really have to drain the tank? Not that it's a bid deal. I am just wondering.

I do my work when the tank is half empty. Or I only partially drain the tank if need be. I keep the petcock on and I can remove that sucker in 5 minutes.

I say just ride it till it runs out of gas then it is nice and lite. I have never pulled the petcock.
