dropseat savage

I recently came across the drop-seat style bobber and realized it's everything that I've always visualized in my dream bike.

Two incredible examples:
http://forum.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=messageboard.viewThread&entryID...

How hard would this be to create on the savage?

To avoid having to make an entire new back end, I'd want to keep the current swingarm assembly (w/ chain conversion) and just extend the frame underneath the engine and on top (drop seat of course).  Overall I'd expect to stretch the frame about 2 to 3 inches, just enough so that I'm sitting more in front of the wheel than on top.

Because the rear engine mount bracket would move rearward with the swingarm, I would insert two vertical bars on each side of the frame, much like the red bobber on the link I showed.  The "cradle" struts that would be beneath the seat would be attached to these vertical struts in front and the old frame in back (which supports the shocks and swingarm)

I'm curious as to how much this might affect handling.  I wish +9 was still hanging around to let me know how the savage handles with a longer base.  The other consideration would be that Ill be riding about 3 or 4 inches lower and so will my weight (although I only weigh 145 soaking wet.)  I might take a trade in handling if being behind the tank more will cut down on wind resistance.

Any thoughts?

Cool bikes...  Cool

At least you won't need to change the front end.
I think you'll need about 6 - 9"... see savage+9 for an example of a frame stretch.
What I don't like about their bikes is how the rear triangle attaches to the motor cage.  Right in the middle of a vertical upright.  That ain't gonna last.
And cold mornings aren't gonna bother you any more.   Roll Eyes
Can't say I'd like to have a cone filter suckin' away on the inside of my thighs.   Shocked

My understanding is that a cone filter in that position is known as a "Lewinsky".
