When painting the Jug and Head how do you get the paint down in the fins without making the outside of the fins to thick and runny ?

I'll sand the very ends of the fins after it sets up. I was talking about it getting thick and runny out close to the edges while not being able to get enough deep down in the fins...

I never worried about it when I did mine...came out fine.  Keep coats thin,  give a minute or two for paint to tack i bit before hitting again.  Use heat paint,...I bought rattle can low gloss engine paint at Checker auto.

gotcha, I misunderstood; yeah, slow and thin, multiple applications will prevent build up and run off.

Lay engine on side, paint top edge? Let dry, lay on other side? But really, who is gonna be in a position to critique the area between the fins? Someone doesnt like it, tell em paint it..
