Oil plug and Cam Chain oh NO !

Man this motor was about to drop the plunger on the chain and the oil plug was very loose. I see why it had oil all over it... dirty inside also but the bore looks good...

Video.

Yep, About to drop the plunger is right. How many miles are on this beast ?

Fix the tensioner, oil plug, polish the bore, new piston rings ( if necessary ), check the valves, a good clean - up, re-assembly and fire her up.

Good Luck on re-assembly. I see the refreshments are in order.  Smiley

That's the old style plug.  The new style will be filled.

Wow, I am so lucky. I had the top off, did the cam & chain & had no idea the oil plug was Right There.Glad I didnt mess that up. Next time Im in there Ill pop it out & check the head torque. After almost 20,000 miles I bet its time. Ohhh what's 19,400 miles between friends?

Fix it up, Mike. Nice work area. Looks like it holds fluids.

Don't mess with the headnuts if you have no leaking headgasket.

@ mike the plug schould be installed WITH sealant ( the book doesnot mention that!!!!!)

If I didn't know any better, I'd say the bore looked good.....I think I can see cross-hatch marks in there.

How many miles were on the engine when you tore into it?  Inquiring minds want to know.

See that rod just above the gear in the middle?
That's the tensioner assembly.
See how the plungers at an angle to the housing?
It's about to fall out.
bad, very bad.

Where do you guys see the oil plug? Isn't it much lower on the block and none of the pics show that low.

The speedo says 12,700 miles but was told it was hard miles....lol
And yes it still had cross hatching marks, but I run a hone with WD-40 up and down a few passes just to freshen things up a bit, I'll need to do a few hard roll ons and hard decorations the first time out but thats about it... I'll also change the oil after like 5 miles to make sure all contaminants are cleaned out.

Clutch plates are at the min allowed working thickness so they need replacing, and I run the steel plates under a new wire wheel and scuffed them up good like that of light sand blasting.... they had a few shinny spots on each one....

Head work.... I'll fill in the lower section of the intake with JB-Weld, relieved the intake valves and worked over the exhaust side...

do you have to put on a new gasket when you take off the side cover? I was working on the bike today and noticed the gasket looked like the gel kind you just squeeze on around the sides.Or do you take it off and dont worry about the gasket as long as you dont damage it?

Not damaged = good = save a you munneeee for something nice for Christmas for Me! See how easy that was?
I havent seen this discussed, so, here goes. Looks to me like the clutch cover might just be Okay without a gasket, just a light dose on each side of Zuki Bond whatever, let it tack up & Sssschlap it on there.
