Stripped down for re-paint (updated)
10/27/08 at 22:06:03

Well, most of ya'll know that I have put the FireLizard into hibernation. I did it yesterday and today I have stripped her down to a bare rolling chassis. It took me about four hours to strip her all the way down which included engine removal and wiring harness and all the little doodads.

Sorry for the dark pics but my garage ain't exactly well lit.

I will provide better pics next weekend.

There there Justin, here is some pics, wanna 'nother lolipop?  Grin

I am gonna be painting it a dark blue hopefully with metal flake if I can find it. Still working on the kind of graphics I want but getting closer. Gonna repaint the frame black, wish I had the money to powdercoat.

Powdercoat it. The color you are dreaming of is silver with mylar flecks under candy blue.
Try this link for pics.

The only problem is, its usually not that uniform, it sorta bunches up at joints and has a few drips and thick and thin spots ... but I should say ... looking in the sun totally makes up for any short commings in the thicknesses.
BTW black with multicolor specs in the clear ... I done it and it comes out near perfect ... or atleast you cant see its flaws.
Cool.

I wish you were closer, I could get the powder coating done for you for relatively cheap.  Only problem is, the guy I know only does industrial powder coating.  So nothing with fancy colors.  I got the jugs, head, head cover, carb tops, carb bowls, and all of the engine covers done on my GS850 for about $50.  Everything I could get off without splitting the cases.  They are just basic black, but they look really good.

The next time i take anything to him, I am doing the masking work myself instead of trusting it to his shop monkeys.  They left a gap on the head and I ended up with a powder coated strip on one of the cam journals.  That was a pregnant dog to get off...

Steely............ how well does it cool with the fins coated ?

I want a Black motor but was going to paint.

Yosh........... I found that my 15 year old daughter has some sparkly glitter she puts on her cheeks at times. Very sim to what you see in paints but only $1 ...... not $50...... I will be getting a tub and try mixing it with some paint shortly .....

My guy also does industrial stuff ... but they do have lots of colors. He buys 5lb lots, and since he buys them a lot, they can order anything and it gets shipped with their large orders.
Anyway, I too get stuff back with powder everywhere ... I just clean it off and go on ...
High heat powder conducts heat just fine ... dunno about regular powder.
Cool.

The flecks in powdercoating as well as girls glitter is nearly the same. I believe its flecks of mylar. How big and what not is the only difference. Its also the same material those silver balloons are made of and that is also used for wine bags for wine that comes in big gallon cardboars sized boxes ...
Want a neat trick ... - OK try at your risk, not responsible for mishaps leading from this method.
Take one of those used wine bags out of the box, and yank off the tap. A good man sized tug oughtta do it. Then wash it with hot water ... for good measure wash the tap too. Dont fit the tap back in or atleast not too tightly back in.
Then dry it, and fold it up and keep in your bike tool box or your riding back pack/tank bag.
If you run out of gas ... you can walk to the gas station, fill it with ~1 gal gasoline Put the tap back in and walk back to the bike and put that gas in it. Then you ride on to the gas station and fill up.
The bags are gas resistant, I have used one as a diaphragm on a vacuum gas pump like what my seca 600 had for over 3-4 years.
You also have extra ear type room on its corners and you can punch holes in it and string a shoe lace through it and carry it over your shoulder when its filled, empty it fits in your pocket.
I like franzia brand the best. It has a true tap and its transparent not silver.
Cool.
Srinath.

So.... should you drink the wine before you jump on the bike? I am a big fan of box wine... you can carry it around with you and drink at your leisure!

It's a Durfee Girder front end that I got off of e-bay along with the mini drum brake front wheel. (stock Savage wheel was too wide)

He made the springer ... with his bare hands ... beating the metal and ... forget it ... he put a lot of pics up when he was building it ~1 year ago.
He and I were posting about fitting some loooooooong ass front end off whatever poor bike happened to have strayed our way ...
I did KX500 ... he went the springy way ... harley springy ...

There is a box-o-wine in everyone's tank ...

Not responsible for DWI or wobbling after fill up either ...

Cool.

It doesn't appear that he did... but I have been wrong in the past!

Srinath... I would drink the wine, wash out the bag, put it back in the box, and strap it to the back of the bike just to see what the cops say when They pull me over!
