Rectifier and saddlebags yoke

I just picked up a set of bags and the only way I can get them to fit the way I want is to cover up the rectifier with the saddlebag yoke (the piece attaching the 2 bags that goes over the fender). Is this going to cause me a problem down the road? Would it generate enough heat to melt the synthetic leather or prevent the rectifier from cooling.?

It is not a good idea to cover the rectifier. This can cause excessive heat to the unit, possibly causing the rectifier to fail. Like alcoa I notched mine to fix around the rectifier. I allowed approximately 3/8 clearance on the sides and rear. I took my bags to a shoe maker and he stitched around my cut out. That was about nine month ago and no problems yet.

Just move the rectifier. That's what I did. Then I used the bolts and threaded holes in the fender that held the rectifier in place to anchor the saddlebags to the fender. I drilled holes in the leather yoke, ran the bolts through the holes and into the fender. Worked like a charm. Plus, the rectifier actually gets a little air now.

In case anybody has a similar question re: saddlebags and the rectifier, I followed Jimmer's advice. I carefully placed where I wanted my bags to sit - height (adjusting the length of the yoke) & width. I marked the cutout around the rectifier using some white chalk. I then used masking tape around the cutout portion and clamped the two yoke pieces together so I wouldn't screw up the length. I took it to the local shoemaker and he cut it out and sewed it up while I waited - $7.00. It fits absolutely perfect. One thing that made the job a lot easier was the fact that my bags zip off the yolk. Once I measured everything up I unzipped them and just took the yoke for stitching.

Did you have to get longer wires? Trying to avoid a trip to the store, also trying to not take a pair of scissors to my yoke...
