Save yourself a lot of future trouble and replace the OEM petcock vac line with thicker-walled automotive vacuum line and beefier clamps anyway. Even if the problem is the diaphragm in your petc0ck, eventually the oem tube will split or may  come loose at the cheesy little clamp.

Here's a pic of the OEM tube compared to the thicker tube I bought at Discount Auto.

Replacing the hoses sounds like a good idea.  Question-- if PRI is the same as RES, that just means it draws gas from the bottom of the tank, right?  So I don't have to worry until I get down to the last 1/3rd of a tank of gas?

True res and prime draw from the bottom of the tank, what ever there will get sucked in.   Shocked

Make sure you remember to turn it to "on" when you shut off or else...

So I replaced the spark plug and the vac line and that seems to have solved the problem.  Started right up and would run on any petcock setting.  Thank you everyone!  Now I have a new problem!  Will start new thread-- see Broken Clutch Bracket!?
