Take off seat and tank, remove fuel and vacuum lines from carb, unscrew clamps and wrestle it out of there.

You can remove it without removing the battery box, but it is a pain in the butt, so I always remove the battery box as well. Once you take out the battery, the box is secured in place by 4 10mm bolts and it will slip right out.

For future reference: Questions belong in Rubber Side Down. The tech/ref section is for posting how-tos but don't worry too much about it, When I first joined I asked in this section also.

I just completed a carburetor modification on my 2008 S-40. I believe it would have been next to impossible to remove the carburetor on mine without removing the battery box. The box wasn't too bad to remove but it was a PITA to reinstall. Mine was jammed in against the airbox and getting every one of the 4 bolts started was a mess. On the carb. I just bent the rubber ductwork and took it out and then the carb slipped right out.

I did carb mods on mine not too long ago. I removed the battery box. I did not remove the tank. I feel it's easier. I'm just lazy that way.  Cheesy
