I am very much
against exhaust tape, and here is the reason.
Exhaust tape covers the exhaust pipe, so the pipe is not exposed to airflow.
This causes excess heat to build up in the exhaust pipe, and this heat has only two ways to go:
- stay in the exhaust gases, which will be much hotter (so the
muffler will overheat, and you will have to rejet the carb to richen a bit)
- creep back up into the head, overheating
it... which means the
head will overheat only at the exhaust side, and warping may occur.

So, keep your exhaust bare and allow it to cool...
