mabs22 YaBB Newbies Offline SuzukiSavage.com Rocks! Posts: 5	locked gas cap 09/14/08 at 17:53:02 I lost my key and have to say thank you to those friends that suggested I dismantle my ignition lock. I did it and had a locksmith take it apart to cut me a new key - and it worked!! But the new key does not fit gas cap so I still can't go anywhere! Any advice on how to get a new gas cap (or key to fit the old one)? thanks

Keys don't always work in every lock if they're off just a little bit. You may need to wire brush the key, there may be burrs on it.

1. Get a flat bladed screwdriver with a square shaft. 2. Align the screwdriver blade with the key slot. 3. Hit screwdriver with a hammer (this will fracture the lock pins). 4. Using a crescent wrench, on the square screwdriver shaft, turn the blade in the appropriate direction and the cap will come off. Unfortunately, the lock will be broken, but you will be back on the road.

A week after I got my bike, my granddaughter got hold of the keys and lost them somewhere in our house. I called a Suzuki dealer and they were able to somehow order a new one by my serial # and information on my title. (Cost me a bit and never could get a fork lock but it worked) I had to work with the new key for several weeks before it opened everything smoothly but it DID fit! Try pulling it out until you feel the first cylinder roll, and then slightly in while turning.

You all have been the best! The best advice, the cheapest , the most logical, the most obvious! I had dealers quoting me $400- 500 to get me back on the road! In all this cost me $60.00.
I used a wire brush and a little bit if wiggling - and voila! I can now take full advantage of the beautiful Virginia fall days. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all who replied.
