front wheel removal for tire change
09/03/08 at 22:52:23
I have an 07 S40 that needs a tire because the tred is cut.The members who answered my question about riding to the stealership on that tire (thnx)cautioned me not to. The owner's manual description of taking off the front wheel looks really simple, but I don't see how i can get the wheel past the caliper(just eyeballing it for now). Also, what's a good way to hold the bike up? I have a floor jack and two jack stands. Thanks.

a couple of bricks underneath by the kickstand should hold it up. that's what i do.
once you take out the axle the disk will slip out of the caliper easy

with the kick stand down, I use the floor jack. To lift front side, place it underneath the front of engine - make sure it is in gear. To lift the rear side, place it underneath the rear side of frame (there is a flat area that looks like it's meant to be used for it. In either case, use a piece of wood to isolate metal jack lifter from the the MC.

thanks for all the replies.went to try a few and after twisting a couple of hex wrenches I took it to a Honda dealership and the had me in and out in less than an hour. Have a new Kenda challenger on the front.Haven't scuffed it in yet,but it feels a little harsher. Haven't checked the pressure yet either because I was anxious to ride. The service man at the honda place told me he didn't think anyone only ran with 29 psi in the front. So I might be running with 30-32 lbs. in the front.
