rectifier get hot?
08/31/08 at 15:00:14

I got saddle bags and want to put them under the seat. Can I remove the rectifier put the bags across the fender and put the rectifier over the bag material Tongue using the same bolt and hole to hold the rectifier in place?

most problems are caused by the loose nut that conects the handelbars to the seat

You don't have a whole lot of clearance under the seat. I just put a larger set of bags on mine and I used the yoke that you would run under or over the seat and sleeved it around the fender rails. Mine are box lid type and I did move the turn signals back. If you are interested I can email pics.

you can easily move the rectifier. I put mine under the drivers seat and didn't have to change any wires or anything.

I have heard it suggested that the rear fender is used as a heat sink for the rectifier.  Insulating it with a layer of leather could goof that up, if it is so.  We may never know if it is true, though, unless someone tries it and reports back with results.

Is there room in the saddlebags for a fire extinguisher, just in case? Wink

I would just put over the top of it.  The seat already hampers air flow, so problem there.  But to put it under raises new questions, does it need to be grounded, is the fender the heat sink?

When I fitted my saddle bags, I put the rectifier in the tool box.
