Any Aftermarket Gas Tanks

I put on a lot of miles on my bike. I have been riding for just about a year now and have over 6500 on it. That is even with the long period of rain and serious storms that kept me off the bike about a month ago. On a given day I can put on about 110 or more miles. Is there any aftermarket tanks that would work with the S40, a 2007, that would give me more capacity?

Well, you can go with what some of us have done and get a Harley 4-5 gallon tank and put on the bike. It's a lot of little work around stuff to get it on there and it changes the seat set up and geometry a bit. Or you can do what I did before I got the SoftTail tank on there and get an aux tank to boost your trip mileage. The aux tanks come in a few sizes, mine's 4 gallon. between those two tanks I can stretch it out to a little over 400 miles if I have to.

I put a Harley Road King tank on mine and it seems to be doing rather well.

Interesting set up with the spare tank. Does that fly on inspections? I will look into the Harley tanks. thanks.

We don't have inspections up here near to Santa Land, but if you go to the tour tank website they (at least used to) have some pictures of bikes that had been in accidents, flipped and not spilled a drop or ruptured. They anchor in solidly, have anti-splash baffling in them now and even overflow capture systems are available. They've become safer than most stock tanks on bikes now-a-days.
I should get some kind of endorsement fees for my support. I love mine and the range it adds.

I bought a Kawasaki VN 750 tank from a salvage yard, fits rather nicely on the Savage, but of course you need to get rid of the (impractical) tank speedo, and get a speedo with trip on the handlebar instead.
I enlarged the tank, since the tunnel was very high, so I get almost 15 liters in the tank, which gives me a riding range of more than 350 kilometers. I'm very happy with this arrangement.
Good luck !

Peter, several have ditched the stock tank. Seems one of the main hassles is finding a speedo drive that reaches the bars. How did yiou manage?
as for "Putting a lot of miles on", I had over 12,000 the first year & have talked to folks who put that to absolute shame. Tho, admittedly, high miles on a bike is not that many miles. Seems the average bike owner spends more time paying for & washing it than riding. Thats AVERAGE owners. I diont see that as the norm here. I Really dont understand it. We have what is a far cry from the average bike owners "Dream" bike & I think we ride more than the average motorcycle owners. I know a guy who has several bikes & I expect I get more miles in a week than he gets in a month. But then, he DOES have a Job.

I know that the Boulevard C50 has a 4 gallon tank, wonder what kind of mods it takes to mount one on the S40/Savage.

I can never remember the model, but there's a three cyl. Suzuki from the past ('80's) that has a longer tach cable you can use for the speedo. I made a case out of PVC pipe fittings for my stock one and moved it to the center of the handle bars. Better the inaccuracy you know I always say. Or do I?

It's a GT750 tach cable that works. I made sure I remembered the model when I relocated my speedo after the Road King tank swap. It is a direct swap, the cable is just longer.
