hey everyone, got my license a few weeks ago and i'm now the proud owner of a white 2005 s40...the bike is awesome, with one exception, i don't know if its how the bike is set up or if it was something the previous owner did but the brake pedal is almost vertical above the peg...he didn't have the owners manual so i was wondering if there was a way to adjust it to angle down farther before i develope a permanent limp from trying to keep my foot from riding the brake...also, i'd like to start doing some work on the bike myself and was curious, would i be better off getting a clymer's manual or the suzuki service manual...thanks for the help! Cool

The SSM is good, cause Clymers sometimes isn't clear either. So both in hand, you got it covered.

Also, I second what verslagen1 said -- getting the Clymers helps too. Both the SSM and the Clymers can be a bit vague at times. Anything I've done to my Savage has required both to make it really clear.

I had the same problem with the brake pedal.
My legs are so long that the pedal was awkward!

When I first bought my bike,I took it for a service and oil change plus to check out the bike more thouroughly.

The mechanic adjusted the brake pedal further out for me.

Much much better afterwards!!
No more cramped feeling trying to put the brake on!

There is also a pedal stop bolt with lock nut at the pedal. You need to adjust both the pedal stop and the nut on the rear wheel ( on the arm).

Note: it may take several tries to get the pedal stop adjusted "just right". When adjusting, make sure you can roll stop the bike before starting the engine!!! Also make sure it rolls freely.

Loosen the rear adjuster before messing with the bolt/pedal stop at the front. Then adjust rear adjuster.

Front rotor? Grab the calliper, pull & push on it, to create some slack between the pads & rotor. May need a screwdriver, may not. Remove the calliper, hang it up, so as to keep the load off the hose. Get the front wheel off the ground, remove same, remove rotor, reassemble. You need a book, for torque on bolts & general maintenance.
