How about a rear end rattle?
08/21/08 at 11:21:42

OK, no funny cracks about my bottom. But seriously, I've got a rattle that seems to be coming from the lower left (as ridden) of my S40. It seems most apparent on the low end of 3rd gear and I have about 2,000 miles on her. Any thoughts?

Check the chain gaurds first.  Then Shock,  license plate ,  plate over front sprocket, front sprocket .....

My dog has an occasional rear end rattle, but it is easily identifiable by the smell.   Shocked

Check the side plate that covers the electronics on the left side, it is only held in by one screw and loosens easily.  Mine got so loose that it fell off in traffic and got squashed.  Cost me $86 to replace.

Beans give me a rear end rattle.  I had my license plate coming loose and thought the rattle was pretty loud.

Do you have saddle bags on? if so look inside for tools or other items
lurking about,if not ,sounds like the belt gaurd to me,not much else on that side.

The left hand side plate will rattle even when screwed on tight, try some double sided tape under the screw hole.

Yeah, thanks for asking. I'm almost certain it's the chain/belt guard. Everything else seems to be tight. The guard doesn't seem to want to bend. Anyone have any ideas on how get to an inch or two clearance there? I think I've only got about 1/4". And somewhere along the line in 3rd gear I don't even seem to have that.
BTW, no prob with the rear end jokes.Funny stuff!  Grin
Thanks.
