White spacer mod tip
08/18/08 at 21:43:28

Well, I did the white spacer mod last weekend with Lancer's kit.
Anyhoo, I thought I would pass along my little tip for removing the 4 screws off of the top of the carb.

I took off the carb and paced it on a couple pieces of wood (one on each side so that the drain tube wouldn't break).

I used a #2 screw driver. I pushed down hard and tapped the top of the screwdriver with a hammer while trying to loosen the screws.
After a few taps, the screws gave way very easily. This effect is much like a impact driver: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00947641000P?vName=Automotive&cName=...

Hopefully, this will save some frustration for others.
Also, buy a nice screwdriver-those 50 cent ones will strip out something. It's not like you would never use it again. Saving $4 on a junk screwdriver will cause you extra work and tools to remove the stripped out screws.

Hope this helps,
Ken

Thanks for the tips!

I'm not sure, but those screws may be JIS Phillips screws.  If so, they'll have a small dot embossed into the head of the screw, by the cross.

You can get JIS Phillips screwdrivers here:

Ames, among other places.
