I shimmed those rubbers up, with strips of innertube. I cjanged belts, too. Now, ita no squeekee, but why? Is it the shims? Or the belt? I dunno, but since it was new, its quieter than it ever was. The Belt, that is.

The shop towel is a great idea. At least the starter is easy to remove. Since the rubber washer popped out before I had a chance to look at it, I had to guess about which way to put it back. No leaks now, so either I got it right or it doesn't  matter. Clymers was no help, I don't think they even mentioned the kamikazee washer.
