S40 Gel Pillow Seat
08/14/08 at 16:37:23

Well I finally got in my new seat for my Savage today Cheesy. I ordered that puppy on Sunday I think it was and it got here today. Right after work I took it out and man it looked huge. I pulled off my stock (crappy) one and then pulled off the passenger seat that had tears in it and dropped it down to see if it fit and it did except the passenger seat end had a mount so that it would bolt up to the fender but it wasn't nearly long enough to reach the fender.

Anyway I mounted it up and road it around for a while and man I felt like I had put a lift kit in. I am a big guy and with the old seat I sat on the plastic piece basically and with this thing I didn't go in very far so it felt pretty comfortable. I won't be able to really test it until I make a 75 mile run here this weekend to see the new Star Wars movie Cheesy

Anyway I'll get back with you guys after I give it a good testin.

Meh well I splurged and got the one off of ebay. It was about $200 total which was more than what I was wanting to spend but I really didn't want to go out and buy one for a sportster and hope that I could rig it up the way I like it on my bike.

I'll take a few shots with my cell sometime this weekend and send them in. It looks what I would call really really poofy lol. It is nice and soft but gets firmer I guess as the more weight you put on it.

When I converted my  '01 to a S40 seat I just put a rubber pad on the bolt bracket.

You can see my old seats setting there behind. I'd like to remind everyone that this was a straight bolt up to my 98 Savage. Granted the stupid bolt didn't want to come out of my old seat but hey I gotter done!

Well I went out of town on Sunday for a ride and to see a movie. My tail-bone didn't start hurting pretty much till I got there whic is a big improvement over the old seat. It still didn't quite live up to my expectations.

Gotta remember that I'm 240lbs and dropping so anyone who isn't big probably would be just fine with it.

Is there a breakin time for seats or what?

No.  You've got about as good as it gets.

Even my $400.00 custom molded seat was only a minor improvement over the stock one.  Even with all the gel and memory foam, sheep skin pad and new shocks, my butt would still hurt.  It took alot longer for it to happen, but it still did.

The S40/Savage seat is too narrow to provide sufficient support for us bigger guys.  The seat is too shallow and too short.  It forces you to almost ride on the tank.

The only improvement would be to fit a fatter, longer saddle in place.  The seat on my C50 is heaven compared to my Savage seat.

You're either going to have to get used to your butt hurting or look for another solution.  An air-hawk cushion will help, but they look awkward.

I think my stock seat got better at about 700-800 miles but I only weight 165 so I think that makes a lot of difference.

Gel seats, that is:

Yeah, it's an older photo, but the seat shows up OK.

Here it is in slightly warmer weather:

I have had my Savage since 2001 and have just gotten back to doing some more improvements.

I will send a picture of a super wide custom seat I fabricated and had professionally covered.

Where did you get those nifty highway bars? This is my first post here and I want to get some bars and/or forward controls. Anyone got links or parts?

Thanks to all.
