Ebay/ffender mod/rear rack questions
08/14/08 at 14:20:12

What are my choices to try and get a similar look on my Savage?  I'm thinking about maybe trying to clean up the rear fender a bit ourselves, using a fender bib, and trying to find a rear rack that will fit.

Does anyone know of a rear rack that will fit?
This rear rack is so pretty, and SO much cheaper.  I can't see how any are going to fit without some work.  Tongue

Or is it easier to try and buy a HD rear fender and fit it to the Savage?

Also, check this out;  ebay fender chopping guy.  Might come in handy.

Kind of thinking out loud here, and could use a few more voices in my head...

I like the look of that rack too, nice curves.
You may have to tweak the mounting brackets in a bit and drill a new hole in the siderails.  Can you get your hands on a similar rack and see how it fits?  Or at least park next to one and compare side by side.

Don't know if this is anything like what you're thinking, but mine has a 70's jap junkyard fender $20, and a sportster rack with the opposite curve to the one you linked.  I'm sure the rack would fit if you drilled the appropriate holes for mounting.

That first rack looks like it's for the C50/M50.  If it is, the bolts on the fender rail are 8 1/2" center to center.  I don't recall from my Savage, but they may fit the fender rail bolts on your bike too.

It'll take some doing to clean up your fender (move the rectifier and fill some holes) but it would look good with the solo rack.

I can't seem to fit the rectifier under the seat.  I know some have put it there.  Did you really have to twist, force and mangle a bit?

Mines under the seat towards the front, but I have the 2" seat lift.  Some have pulled the air snorkel and stuck it down in the airbox.

Does the rectifier have to be bolted solidly to metal- in other words, be grounded well to the frame?
