Help me mod this fender plz!

I'm removing the passenger seat on my bike and putting on a fender bib. Keeping the front driver seat for now, eventually may want to change that. We've seen the mess before, but now we are trying to clean it up. I know some of you have already done this, although I couldn't find any info here on the site. Specifically, where did you move that metal venty thing? (what is it, anyway?) And we are assuming we can lay the leather fender bib ontop of the wiring and one small connection. Would we be assuming correctly? Anything else we should know?
We would be me, and my slippered husband in the background.
Thanks in advance. Cuz without you all, I'd have no clue.

If you unscrew that venty thing(rectifier), you can rotate it so that it fits between the frame rails under the front seat. I had to do that to fit the sportster seat on my bike. I also have some wiring and other stuff crammed under there. No problems so far (two seasons).

Thank you, Al. Maybe you can tell me more about the sportster seat? Do/did you find it comfortable? And will a 2004+ sportster seat fit right on, without making more modifications?

I don't know what year seat I have but it wasn't a straight bolt on mod. I had to trim some of the plastic from the bottom of the seat pan so that it would sit down on the frame. I also had to fabricate a bracket to mount it and I had to modify the tail light to attach the rear bracket(I wound up replacing the tail light with a cats eye that fits under the fender). Most of this can be found in the tech section though.
You and 4carbcorvair are the closest savages to me. Maybe we should plan a ride sometime if it ever stops raining around here.

I've heard of rotating the rectifier as well to make it fit between the rails there.
You could probably remove that wiring area too? Just drill a hole by the rectifier and then route the wiring into the fender there. I don't know the best way to keep it away from the tire... But it would keep you from having to put the bib "over" anything.

Rectifier can also be moved down to the muffler support bracket by extending the wires. Look at Savage Greg's bike pics. Max
