I just replaced the motor on the 95 Savage with an 87 Motor.
The 95 w/5-speed would run up to 80 and beyond. This '87 w/4-speed will not get me past 65.
It has the same pipes, carb and jetting, air filter/box as the 95 did when it blew up.
WHAT GIVES!?? Is the top speed of an 87 65MPH?? It doesn't feel like it is hitting a rev limiter. Is there a difference in the ignition module from the 95 to the 87? Do I need to change the ignition module to the 87 in order to match the module with the motor? (stupid question but hey you never know)
I also noticed that I hit 65 at about 3/4 throttle and there is no further pick up for the last 1/4 turn of the throttle.
Running stock filter with air box cover and snorkel removed. Stock pilot jet, stock needle with about half the washer removed, and a 145 main jet.I think I am going to raise the main jet to 155 from the 145 it had before the motor blew! The same HD pipe I rode with the 95 for about a year with no problem is now turning really funky colors after just 20 miles on the replacement motor. So I am thinking it is running too hot because it may be way lean with the 145 on the 4-speed.
HELP!
