How many miles are on your Savage/S40?

I am looking to buy one for commuting. Looks pretty rugged - wondering how long I might expect it to last.

Thanks,

John

I have a 1986 like Demin with just over 14000 miles on it, still working out a few bugs but it starts and runs every time.

I've only had mine since spring. It's a new '08. Had 1.2 miles on it when I left the dealer, now pushing 2900. I run a 30 mile commute (each way) four days a week, all superslab at 60 - 65 mph. The bike performs beautifully, and gets a consistent 50mpg. With a Clymers, this forum, a few tools, and the willingness to learn to wrench, you can do the few basic maintenence items and rare repairs yourself without any trouble. It's a good bike.

2004 that I bought 7 weeks ago.... Had 8600 on it...

Now it has 9+k on it and the commute it 60 miles per day, after I get done correcting the PO (privous owners) lack of work on the bike, I will be moding it all winter to a more elegant form....

My plans for the future of the bike..... My daugher is helping and hoping she will get to ride it ( she is 4 1/2 now) Wink

I have an 05 S40. Given by my wife and children in 2005 on the occasion of my 50th BD. It has around 6000+miles. I have 2 bikes and intentionally would like to keep my S40's mileage low for personal reasons and emotional reason. Good bike. I logged a total of more than 21,000 miles in 2and a half years.

18,000 on my '95. I'm the third owner, put 11,000 on myself in 2 1/2 seasons. Always starts right up, no choke or nothing, even after I rejetted the carb myself. Freakin miracle!  Cheesy

I had just over 51,000 on mine when I finally put it to pasture.

It was still running, but needed some TLC to put it back into top shape.

I got away with no head-plug oil leak until 45,000 miles.  The cam chain and tensioner were original.

I just kept throwing on new tires, a new drive belt and oil changes every 3500 miles and she just kept on ticking....

Have a 1987, and just rolled over 15,000 miles. There's remains of gray sealer between the top and bottom parts of the cylinder, so someone's been in there before. For what I don't know, but I'll find out when I fix the oil leak during the winter.
