Cateye taillight, side mount plate and sporty seat
07/16/08 at 20:46:58

Just wanted to pass along the progress that I'm making. I swapped the standard rear taillight for this cateye, fits just under the fender pretty well. The sidemount plate, unlit. (We'll see what Johnny Law has to say) and the new sporty seat conversion.

I was able to use the stock wiring pigtail from the original light, pretty neat trick actually.

I'm thinking about posting a tech article on the cateye conversion, but it might be some time.  Still too much riding to do. I'd be glad to pass along a text only version if anyone wants it.

Enjoy!

Great look Starzuki ... very clean!! And when ya get to it, a "How To" in the Tech section for that tail-light conversion would be deeply appreciated!

A text only version would be good to go over and get the idea.  Star, your bike rocks, looks cool!

That REALLY cleaned up the back end. I like the hardtail looks, I just dont think I would enjoy the ride. I play "Ricky Road Racer" a lot, I KNOw Im slow according to the speedo & all, but the feel of rolling thru a corner & trying to get the max exit speed just appeals to me. I dont think thats what hardtails do best, right?

The "no signals, No shocks" & the light under the fender makes it look long & lean, very nice.

That looks very nice! I'm considering doing the same thing with my bike...

No turn signals though? That's a little scary... I've seen one of those tail lights that integrates the turn signal INTO the tail light. I'd probably go that route.

I'd like to see the text version if possible. Smiley

I have to agree with everyone else here, that is a nice look for sure.  I think that is the best looking seat I have seen on an S40.  I like the look of the cleaned up rear as well, but I too don't think I would be comfortable with no rear turn signals.  that is a good look for sure though so I might be able to be pursuaded.   Tongue

I'm thinking about something like... this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories_Motorcycle-Parts-Accessories...

Or... something similar to that anyways, as long as it would fit under the fender. But it adds the turn signals right INTO the brake light.

Anyone have any opinions? Is this too "sporty" for the little S40? (I would probably be asking is it to "ricey" in car terms)

I gotta admit, it's not quite in the cruiser style ethic, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Curiously, in FL, those might not be legal. Florida (316.234) requires turn signals to be "as widely spaced laterally as practicable..." Some other states require a specific distance apart. Other states (including PA) don't seem to care. I spent a minute looking it up for fun (yes, I'm a geek.)... looks like the PA law doesn't even require turn signals at all!

The PA Consolidated Statues 75 § 4303 (c) says
Quote:
Every motor vehicle, except motorcycles and pedalcycles, and every trailer operated on a highway shall be equipped with a system of turn signal lights and hazard warning lights in conformance with regulations of the department. (emphasis added)

So legally, you should be able to do whatever you want. I think. 'Course, my opinion is worth what you just paid for it, as I have about as much expertise with the Pennsylvania vehicle code as your average pregnant hippo. Wink

Can I (we) get the text version please?

That is exactly the next project I am trying to do on my '87. I already cleaned up the rear end by removing the stock turn signals, sissy bar and chrome mounting bars. I did put new rear turn signals back on using an existing mounting hole.
