trouble with idle

i just replaced my sparkplug and cleaned my carb. I'm running a 155 main jet and the stock pilot jet. I have a Jardine slip-on. Now I got it all back together and it started right up. yeah!!!! but it doesn't want to idle I turned up the idle screw almost all the way. when you give it about 1/4 throttle it sounds good. also when you give it 3/4 throttle or better it stutters a little. where should I start looking?? is it possible for throttle cables to stretch?? mine has a lot of play

It sounds like your stock pilot jet is too small, and you may possibly need to do the white spacer mod.

Simple answer: Yes and the white spacer mod controls midrange.

Pliot jet affect 0 to 1/4 throttle.
Needle (adj by white spacer) is 1/4 to 3/4
Main jet is 3/4 to WOT.

Get a couple of #4 washers from the hardware store, either metal or nylon.
