Dyna muffler question. Catalyst?
07/15/08 at 09:39:34

I got a pair of Dyna mufflers off Ebay, arrived today. One is catalyst, the other is not. Both are 80db.

Advantages to running either? Other than less emmisions with the catalyst muffler. I'm assuming the non-catalyst would have better flow? Would the catalyst muffler allow me to not need a carb re-jet?

Thoughts and opinions welcome. Smiley

didn't know there was such a thing as a dyna-cat?...I'd chuck it and use the other.  Last emmision test I had registered 0.000 under load and gnat-fart at idle...

Thanks.

Yup, says "Catalyst" right on it. I attached a couple crappy pics. You can see the  catalyst weave honeycomb whatever you wanna call it stuff in inlet.

I can't believe these S40/Savages have a roughly 2 inch pipe out of the engine, reduces at the muffler and than has about a 3/4 inch outlet out of the stock muffler.  Grin

Don't trash the cat. Apparently the cat converter contains at least a little platinum and possibly other precious metals. A news item the other day says thieves are making a specialty of stealing the cat converters off any vehicles tall enough for them to crawl under with a battery-powered Sawzall. Takes about a minute to saw the cat out of the exhaust system. And costs the owner hundreds of dollars to eplace it.
