Question about the Fuel petcock Mod

I just looked through the Petcock mod from the tech section. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1113631600

Two questson... do you just recconect the vac line or seal them off at the carb and petcock.

Second. My petcock does not leak when on on or res. SO when not running the bike, couldnt I simply use one of them as off and pri as on? Wouldnt the only thing I loose is the reserve option on the tank?

My understanding...... Prime (PRI) is like running on reserve. Easy to really run out of fuel.

I have done the modification to the petcock. I sealed off the connections for the vacuum line.

I also have T-Mack's question of why are you doing it. I did it because the little bladder in my petcock had gone bad and I was feeling too cheap to just replace it.

If you do the mod correct, PRI becomes off. With the petcock in it's unmodified form PRI will act the same as Reserve. Good way to run out of gas. I know from personal experiance.

I am really askin as to diagnose the prob i am having. if the bike works perfect on PRI, then the vac line is the prob.

Aaaaaahhh,... now we're getting somewhere. First, raise the idle up a little, it's the easiest thing to do and weather conditions do affect the idle.

If it is still stalling, then .... disconnect the vac line and seal the port on the carb temporarily. A spare rubber hose with a screw tight in it works well. Then put it in PRI and see if stalling ends.

Feel like I missed whole conversation... what did you and the screener talk about before you got on the air?

So your bike been stalling out, but runs fine in prime (clue #1)
Have you replaced the vac line?
Does it have clamps on either end?
Have you tried reserve?
Whens the last time you cleaned your carb?
Sat in storage till now?
Miles on the clock?

How many more questions do I have left? Grin

didnt try reserve, but when I was taking the tank off, the petcock on reserve stopped the flow of gas
I just got the bike a few weeks ago, so i have never cleaned it.
sat all winter
11300 miles

When the engine is off, the petcock is off except when in prime.
If it sat all winter with gas in it even with stabil, it may be gummed up.
I'd try seafoam as stated before, but there are 3 places that need attention, petcock screen (in side tank) float valve screen and the carb in general (whole lotta jets) A good clean never hurt nothing. Grin
