I'm coming at this from a different perspective. I changed MC's to get me everything that I wanted. What I've been trying to figure out is if there was one thing that was real a "deal breaker" when it came to the Savage. Overall I liked the Savage, but there were a lot of things that just didn't make it the perfect MC for me.

The seat for me is a riding position thing. I went to a sportier riding position to solve the problem - can't really be done and leave the Savage a Savage.

The instrumentation - nice to have, but not a deal breaker.

Larger fuel tank - this is pretty close to being a deal breaker. All the solutions I saw were either way more difficult than getting another MC or dangerous.

More horsepower - I guess this really was the deal breaker for me, it's just not possible to be comfortable riding on the roads that I ride, at the speeds that I ride on a stock Savage.

Unfortunately if I fixed this on the Savage, then I'd be into the gas tank size, and if I fixed the gas tank size, then I'd need a more comfortable riding position  Shocked Shocked

The solution would have been to have more time to ride, and then I could have used the Savage enough for was it does best.  :'(

I'll agree with whoever said they'd opt for a cleaned up rear fender.  I removed my pillion seat today, and was sad at the unsightly mess underneath.   Tongue

After reading all of these, I think my list just got a little bigger. I do like the idea of moving the speedo up to the bars to be able to enlarge the fuel tank a bit.

Oh, we can have a list?  Where do I start?!  Right off the top of my head, I'm thinking: (clean rear fender, and...)

Speedometer higher up for better visibility

Add an odometer

Blinkers that turn off automatically

And maybe they could do something about that oil leak....is that too much to ask?   Shocked

Blinkers/turn signals. Always forget to turn them off. My wifes 08 Honda scooter has this really loud turn signal flasher/clicker thing that lets you know they are on. Maybe I could borrow her flasher/clicker..... lol

There was recently a thread on that....

Take a look at:

Turn signal alarm buzzer

Looks easy and better yet, cheap! Haven't done it myself yet, though.

On the List of Things to Improve, though, for sure. Every time I reach down and turn them off manually, I feel about 85 years old (how many miles has THAT been on!)

When I started riding 18 years ago, I just got into the habit of routinely turning the blinkers off..whether they were on or not.  Apparently old habits die hard, because with our scooters, and now with the motorcycles, I do the same thing.

The Savage is a great ride, but it sure is stripped down.

I still remember the first time I saw one, in the dealership, looking at jetskis, just goofing, no intention of buying a thing. So physically small, not intimidating, with 650 CCs of "Get R Done" on hand. I Like clean, simple stuff. I wanted it. A few months later, I was throwing a wobbly leg over it, in their lot, getting ready to drive off.. Is it perfect? Nope, has several flaws, but dangitt... Ive had so much fun, cool little bike.
