lost Savage key
07/09/08 at 15:07:07

Howdie,
I bought my first house this fall and my Savage key must have fallen into one of the many boxes and got tossed out Sad

I have only been riding for 3 years and haven't done any work on the bike (haven't needed to)  It's a 2000 LS650 (bought used so I have no paper trail of the key code).  Would I be crazy to try and replace the ignition lock by myself?

can't suzuki make you a replacement based on the VIN ? I'd try that first.

Take a look at the ig cylinder, somewhere there might be a key code.  Mine starts with an "E" and is followed by 5 numbers.

Write down that number and take it to a locksmith that speciallizes in m/c's.  there's one on line

I just went thru this....,   Easy fix.
Take your ignition off, mine only had one bolt. One electrical conection, take it to a reputable locksmith. 15 minutes, new key perfect fit and 35 dollars.

I will definitely try that!  I have taken things apart and put them back together for fun so I'm hoping it really is that easy!!  THANKS - that will be my weekend project.  I'll let you know how it goes.
