Luggage for stock sissy bar/carb adjustment
07/02/08 at 09:33:54
So I'm getting ready to take a 1,400 mile round trip to Denver. I'm wondering if there's a recommended piece of luggage that would mount to the stock Savage sissy bars. Most of the pieces out there seem to be designed for taller bars. Also, I don't have a luggage rack on mine. I'll be riding with a pretty good size backpack on that I've used before, but I'm going to need additional room.
On another note- i'm pretty sure my carb setup is factory (header pipe is blue). Do I need to make any adjustments for the climb in elevation or will it be fine?

I bought a Dowco Overnighter and a roll bag for my trip but I do have a rear rack.
They are awesome and really hold a lot of stuff.

Paladin has a good post in the tech section on how he mounted an airline travel bag to his sissy bar. I just hooked the webbing on my frame back pack over the bar and put the shoulder straps around my cooler trunk. Worked like a dream. I have no rack either. I just put a couple of foam tabs between the bottom of the pack frame and the fender.
Hopefully someone smarter than me will answer the carb question, but my recent experience tells me you should run richer as you gain elevation, which should be just fine if you are stock now.

The carb uses a vacuum thingy to lift the slide. This is "suppose" to compensate for elevation. Our member in Colorado Springs has ridden over the passes with out adjusting.
Are you stopping at Denver??? It's at the "high plains", 5000 and some feet (Mile high). If go a few miles west , you hit the wall they call the Rockies. If you go to Boulder, well .... the wall starts were the city ends. Awesome sight......

I've heard the stock jetting runs better at altitude. As you go up in altitude, if you were to rejet, would get smaller. You may want to readjust your idle mixture though if you were there for any length of time. And that's easy to do if the plug's out.
