The flasher is over the engine. It works on a thermal principle, heats up, and the contacts open , which cools it, which closes the contacts which heats it up which.... etc etc etc If it is faulty, then heat from the engine might affect it.
so..... I agree with Verslagen1 that there is a high probability that the flasher unit is the culprit.
Did you notice if it fails quicker on hot days????
