Lost Key yields new info on blanks
06/25/08 at 12:03:42
So I couldn't find my key today when I found it I knew I had to get spares made, and wouldn't you know just like all the other posts on here, the key shops where I live were no help. I called every one I could find and then called an out of town key shop and told them my dilemma they suggested that I bring the key in and they would try to help my out, long story short, the key blanks that they got to work is a yamaha key, I asked the lady there if she could show me the numbers and everything for me to post here to help other people out who lose things like me.

I have a key machine at work but i don't have any motorcycle blacks. I can get them easy enough though. Thanks for the key #'s. Now i can make a spare for myself. By the way, I charge $2.00 for an automobile key but I can't do the ones with the computer chips on them.

I got a key cut at a local full service hardware store. The key blank made by ilco has a number of X117 YH48. It works perfectly. It cost about $5.00, the great thing about an old fashion hardware store.

double check your keyway, several have been used over the years.

It cost me 7 dollars to have the lady cut the two keys, I gave her a ten for sharing the info with me and being able to make it work for me so quickly, I enjoy small shops and the like and have no problem paying them a few dollars more than big chains, especially family run places.
As far as the ignition/ keyway, my bike is an '87 if that makes any difference or is of any use to anyone.

I lost my keys recently, got the original off the key board had another working copy made, put the original back on the key board. I got mine made at
The Safe Mart
who had the correct key blank : ILCO X179 / SUZ12 . . . . blanks available for $0.80 each from
http://www.mysecuritypro.com
Also lost the only key to my saddlebags, so I found a key that sorta fit and wiggled it about and opened the locks (not the best quality locks!) The Safe Mart also had a pair of keyed-alike replacement locks.

I would suggest writing down the key code that is engraved on the stock key in case you ever lose all of your keys and have nothing to copy

Key code should be on the side of the ig cylinder.

I need at least a spare myself.
Just thinking - I have a business license and could get an order of blanks in bulk if anyone would like to do that. If I get 50 they are 80 cents a piece. Postage for one or 2 wouldn't be much.
Be more than happy to be the go to person for this if anyone is interested.

Jumpin' Joseph I just paid the steelership $10.00 for a blank so I could get a locksmith to cut one. They said that there was little chance of a local locksmith having one.
I then went down to a very small shop in the basement of an out of the way building and the locksmith had a half dozen matching blanks hanging on the wall. His cost .80. He cut the key for $2.00. Works perfect. No more dealership visits for me.

I just had a spare made for my ignition. Gave the copy to dad...so can't say if it's the Suz or Yam.
I wanted a spare of my fork lock as well. That key says it's made in Germany...the local locksmith didn't have a blank to match. Any ideas on that??

ILCO X179
and the fork lock was an experiment:
ILCO SR61N
. Works like buddah. Just thought I would share.

just make sure the blank fits in the lock cylinder first. Mine and my wife's keys do not fit each others bikes. They are opposite handed. Mine is a 1990, wife's is a 2003.
