belt removal
06/21/08 at 12:20:08
Here's a stupid question... I'm having trouble getting my belt off. I got the adjusters all the way loose, the axle nut off, all the sprocket and belt covers off. I push the back wheel forward as far as it will go but I can't get enough slack in the belt to get it off the front pulley. And it looks like there's not enough space between the pulley and the front cover to get it thru there anyway. Anybody got any tricks or tips? Do I need to take that front cover off?
Thanks,
Mike

Are you just trying to get it off the back pully to remove the wheel?

Yeah I'm just trying to get the wheel off. I managed to get the belt off the back pulley so it's good now. The Clymer book I have says to take the belt off the "driven sprocket", that'd be the front one right? But I got it now, thanks for the help.

I think I pulled the axle and dropped the wheel down, then forward. Don't remember any real problem. (But as I tell the wife, the neat thing about getting old is that everything is a new experience.)

drive sprocket is the front, driven is the back.

If you are just taking the back wheel off, you can leave the belt on the front sprocket.
And, yes there is not enough gap around the front sprocket to get the belt off without removing the sprocket.
