Fuel Valve below tank
06/19/08 at 12:50:24

Well, after deep consideration I decided to ask a very stupid question.  This is in response to my previous post where the bike cuts out near full throttle.  Apparently, I did not look too close to the positions on the valve.  On previous bikes the normal position was with the arm down at 6 o'clock.  At a closer look on the Savage, "Pri" is at 3 o'clock.  I presume "pri" means primary???  It is a little confusing with "on" at 6 o'clock.  Will someone confirm the arm needs to be at 3 o'clock "pri"....

pri = Prime (NOT primary)
on = on - this is the normal position
res = reserve

LS650 uses a vacuum actuated petcock.  Pri bypasses the vacuum valve and allows gas to flow without the engine running.
on = vacuum from engine allows gas to flow.
res = vacuum from engine allows gas to flow from bottom of tank.
IF you have a leak in the vacuum line from the carb to the petcock, it can keep fuel from flowing when the engine is running.

like youzguyz says, pri = Prime

Another way of saying getting fuel into an empty fuel bowl on the carb.    Remember, gas evaporates and the carb does have vents....

If ya run the dude outta gas or have the carb apart, then thers no gas in the bowl. Put it on PRIme & let the bowl fill, then itll start.

Also if you store it over the winter or for months at a time.

Few seconds (10-15) is all you need.
