A week ago I got a 97 savage w/ 8000+ miles for 500 bucks!  The battery was dead cause it was guraged for 5 years.  After a thorough inspection and jumping the bike to see if it would run I was sure it was well worth twice that.  I have replaced the battery, drained the tank, changed the oil/filter and installed a in line gas filter.      SO now I have some questions,  

#1  The bike was droped by the previous owner and in so doing tweeked the left handle bar clamp so that it is rotated about 5-10 degrees forwared.  now the bolts on the clamp are flush and have no way I can see of removing.  soo how do you fix that?  

#2  The bike needs new tires.  Can I just buy  tires/tubesand do it my self, or do thay need to be mounted and balanced by a pro.

This is the first bike That I have actuly owned and any wisdom on the subject would be realy awsome.  thanks!

you CAN change the tubes/tires yourself but even if you know how it's a masive pain in the rear. Even if you do it perfectly it'll take way longer than having a shop do it and you'll swear like a sailor the whole way through.  It's worth the $60 to have someone else do it and I'm all about DIY.

These guys are right, tires are a pain, but once you learn how to do it, it is really convenient to be able to do it yourself.  I can change a tire now in the time I would spend walking up to the counter and giving my name.  Course, I am the keeper of tires on 2 tractors, 3 lawnmowers, four wheeler, and untold pieces of equipment.  You be the judge.

what about balancing the tire?  do you need to do this on a bike?
