GIRDER ON!!! (now with pics)

Girder front end is now on the FireLizard. Will post pics and as many of the instructions as I can remember later. Spent from 4:30pm yesterday till 2:00am getting it put on. It is definitely a two man job. Glad my oldest brother decided to move down to New Mexico with me. Without his help it really would have been a PITA.

Okay, here we go and I hope I don't leave anything out. First I must appolagize for no in progress pics. It completely slipped my mind until I was done then I said there was no way I was gonna tear all that down again just for pictures.

First and obvious is I removed the old front end. (car ramp works perfect to set bike on to keep it up right and raise front to work on)

Girder's stem did not work so we (brother and I) knocked out the svage stem from the lower triple tree. By doing this we even managed to use the savage bearings.

The only modification we had to do was enlarge the stem hole on the girder top tree to fit the savage stem. And believe it or not, from there on was pretty much a straight swap. We cleaned up the bearings, repacked them and put it all back together.

The reason it took us over twelve hours to do it was because at first we were trying to make a way to use the girder's stem and waisted several hours of time until my brother figured out how to remove the savage stem from the lower triple tree.

For the brake cable for my mini drum front brake I used the cable from a Honda ATV (will get part number for ya'll later)

For the brake lever I used an upside down mounted clutch lever. (Will be modifying this later with some Harley levers)

Still haven't relocated speedo yet but will be working on that next. And I still need to lengthen my foot pegs and feet controls because of th wider Road King tank.

Now here is what ya'll been waiting for. pics of a true ye ole skool chopper.

So? What'cha think?

Reminds me of "Easy Rider".

Looks good! Are you going to paint it? Just wondering and if so,what color?

Yes I'm gonna paint it, but I do not know what color just yet. There is actually a few more things I need to do first.

A little bouncy and the turning radius takes some getting used to but all in all not too bad.

I've enjoyed watching the progression of your Fire lizard.  So forgive my ignorance, but is there a front brake I see up there?  Or do you just not have one.

i think it has a mini drum, not good for stopping, and barely good for a hill holder.
