EMGO Oil filter question
06/12/08 at 06:31:39

I ordered the EMGO aftermarket oil filter (good price at Bike Bandit). I was assured that, though the box says LS650, it would fit the S40. I get the order in, and it says LS650 '86-'88, and it's alot shorter. Same diameter, just shorter. Unfortunately I don't have one of my factory jobs to compare it too.I foolishly put that in the bike last oil change.

The order number for this part is DM09DUH, SN#1935692. Does anyone have experience with these filters in the Savage/S40? Will they fit/function in my 2008 model? Thanks Savages.

It works ok.  It lets in alot more air than the stock filter.  But it does a poor job of actually filtering anything.

If you're looking for a good filter, then I would suggest the one sold here at Suzukisavage.com.

It is custom made to Lancer's specs (he's a perfectionist!).  It fits without modification, provides superior filtering than the Emgo or the K&N, yet allows more air flow.

I would forget about the cheap imitations and get the real thing...

Shouldn't be an issue, there's a spring to accommodate variations in filter depth

Thanks guys for the info. Good to know the spring will take up the slack in the shorter EMGO filter.

BTW, the EMGO filter will also allow the addition of a good magnet behind it.

You can find details posted in the tech secton...

barry68v10,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've read that post in the tech section, and am considering it. Supposed to be getting a magnetic oil drain plug for father's day. Wife says "that's a stupid gift idea", she just doesn't get it. We'll see tommorrow. Smiley
