Remove the end caps first, they are just glued on as well.

Here's a trick that has worked for me in the past:

Get you a can of contact cleaner with a little straw on the nozzle. Work a skinny screwdriver blade under the grip. Lever the screwdriver blade up a bit and shove the straw for the contact cleaner into the gap you've just made. Blast a spurt of contact cleaner in there. Move the screwdriver blade a bit and repeat until you can twist the grip loose.
