Older bike, right? What size is the rear tire? If my summation is correct, she's running a 140/90-15 on the back, right?
More supposition: She rides entirely around town, doesn't she? All stop-and-go traffic?
Conclusion, she's getting exactly the mileage she should be getting.
Here's why:
With the larger than stock rear tire, the accuracy of the speedometer has been thrown off even more than stock (where it can be as much as 10% off to begin with!). The odometer is affected by the larger tire as well. When the speedo indicates 45mph, the bike can be running as fast as 55mph. That means your wife is riding faster and further than she thinks she is.
Stock, the bike will turn in 45-50 mpg in all city driving. With the spacer mod, the large (157.5 is huge!) main jet, cone filter and the drag pipe, it stands to reason that the bike is going to drop well below stock mpg.
If I'm right, the bike is running just how it should given the setup.....
