chain coversion (disappointed)

i bought all the stuff to do a chain conversion, put it all together and the chain was too long, took out a link now too short, put a link back in still too long. i used a 16/45 combo as was suggested might work with the 4 speed best. i'm gonna have to try something different i guess.

Wouldn't one link only change you about 1/2 inch and seems like theres about 1 inch or more play in the adjustment

with one link out, the axle is as far forward as it will go and the chain is pretty tight. with the link back in (which would be two links, one inside and one outside) the axle is all the way back and there is chain is way too loose. :'(

You should be able to get a half link. That is big on one end, little on the other. I know you can on 35-80 seres chain for equipment. You will need a chain breaker to drive the pin out of the last link of the chain, this will leave a small end the big end of the half link will have a pin to slide through and a cotter pin to hold that in. then you have the small end for the master link. You probably already knew all this, but hope i helped.

Once knew a guy named Link. Everyone called him"The Missing" Link.
His midget brother, of course,, 1/2 Link...

And when he retires, it'll be because he finally found the right Link age.
Oh, I kill me. Guess I'll knock it off before someone else wants too as well. I wouldn't feel right if anyone was Linked to a murder on my account.

i actually did know about them, but i'm not sure i wanna rely on a little cotter pin, at 70+ mph. those chains are not really made for high rpms. probably just go with a smaller sprocket.

Half links are suppose to use pins similar to master-links.
