Engine sputtering/stumbling @ cruise speed
05/29/08 at 19:43:03

I noticed it this morning on the way to work, and again tonight coming home.

At 45 mph it feels like the engine is kind of stumbling, it isn't very pronounced, just 'feels' stuttery, not enough that I am losing power but still there.

I haven't changed the plug, fuel filter, or air filter yet, will do that when I get back from vacation next week.

I searched for this but the search function doesn't like me Shocked Huh

Make sure you set the "This post was made in the last..." box to "all posts."  Search on "petcock."  Or "Vac line."  There are endless accounts of similar trouble stemming from a faulty petcock, and the remedies are explained well.

Happy reading! Smiley

So you got it up to 45 constant? and it's stutering?

I think if you search surging you'll find something.

I think what you need to do is the white spacer mod.

Yes that is more like what I'm feeling.  It isn't really losing power, or coughing/sputtering, I just didn't know how to describe it.  Surging is more descriptive.

I have no trouble getting it up to speed and staying there, just feels 'funny' when I am accelerating and cruising.

I am leaving tomorrow for a week of vacation, I'll be back and work on it next weekend.

Yes, the white spacer mod is what you need.

Look in the tech section about carb tuning.  The whole process can be done in less than an hour and your bike will run better than new.

almost certainly lean surging, my wife's bike did it constantly stock.  Ran better with the choke out to the first pull, even when warm.  I put a 150 jet in it and it's better now, could probably use a bit more.
