Riding a savage (first person view) videos
05/29/08 at 16:33:20

Hey, I know it's been done, but I don't know anyone doing these videos on a savage, so I thought I would give it a try.

If your interested and have a high-speed connection, the link is below.
If you have a slower connection, just pause the videos for a min, and let them buffer.  They've been highly compressed, so it shouldn't be that bad.

There's only 4 on my page right now with the FP view but I plan on doing one on the freeway just because that question comes up a lot on here.  Anyway, it's been a lot of fun so far, it makes the ride more interesting.

I'd be interested to know what kind of camera/capture media you use, and where it is mounted.  That's pretty neat.

I just did two of these before I left the bike in Cali for the summer.  They're long though (5 min each)

Hey, JoeH, I think we may be doing the same job !!!
Cheesy

You don't need a dirt bike, you need:

a) to pull your foot controls some two inches backwards, like on a normal bikem, so that you may lift off the seat when riding over potholes;

b) a dirt bike style front tire, to make that dirt road safer.

You also need to slow down a bit, that road was still wet with dew...

But how did you do it?  What kind of equipment is needed?  A 1/4" bolt through the top of my helmet to mount my camera on sounds cumbersome, so there must be a better way.

Stock pipes, and a lil microphone magic. Cool

LOL, why didn't I think of that?  My setup is highly modified, and not yet complete.  Do a search on livevideo for the standard setup.

I looked at Livevideo.  The cameras used are much smaller than mine, so I'll have to contrive something else or go without for now.  Very interesting stuff.

EDIT:  I got the camera rigged up by just slinging it around my neck and perching it in the zipper on my coat.  The video was good, but the wind noise was awful.  Tried taping foam, a band-aid, and various other things over the built-in mic, with no success.  My camera has no external mic jack.  Any cures for wind noise that you've discovered?  I searched the web, but so far I haven't found anything that will cut down on 45 mph wind sounds.
