Hey, 2000 thumper here, had one year, bought at 2600k miles, now has 6700k smiles. Ive looked up the forums for a definitive answer as to possible replacement sizes for the rear/front tire, but all the ones I see are for special situations and the charts from Metzeler are a little off of stock. As Im sure everyone here already knows... Anyway, What size Metzeler tire should I be looking for? 190/40/15? Im not getting info that makes me feel that Im absolutely getting the right thing. I just want a replacement, nothing special size-wise, but wont skimp on quality. Thanks!!

140/80-15 Rear
100/90-19 Front
Metzeler has both in the ME880 series
(I just put a pair on.. very nice)

It'll be interesting to see which you like best after a few miles - man what stuff the ME880s have on them is sure slick the first 100 miles or so

I've already clocked about .. hmmm.. at least 300 miles on them.
The very first corner I took, I almost jumped over the curb due to the tighter cornering.. really took me by surprise.
Now, I can tell they corner better than the 404s did, but the true proof is if I put new 404s back on after I wear these out, and notice a distinctly worse cornering ability.
I didn't have any problems with the slick stuff.  First thing I did after I got the bike home was to take scouring powder and a scrub brush to the treads... and then still drove careful for the first tank of gas!

Tires are normally purchased by series Make (Metzeler), Series (ME880 Marathon) and size (see above).
Each store will have their own P/Ns for the tires.
I got mine from Dennis Kirk (www.denniskirk.com)
The PNs there are:
540229 for the Front
540233 for the Rear

o.k thanks a lot guys, I hate the stock tires to me the rear tire feels REAL squirrelly to me on turns and stopping. So I don't always feel comfortable on leaning as much as I need to sometimes.

Hey, I just assumed too much and we all know what happens when you do that. I assumed I had tubeless tires, started the thread, got quick replies, I bought them, and then realized, "Hey! I need tubes! and I just bought tubeless tires! What do I do? Are the ME880's able to run tubes? Or do I HAVE to convert now? Undecided

Since the tire gurus are all assembled, can I butt in with a different question?  The parts bike I bought has a Kenda Challenger on the back and a Metzler Marathon on the front.  Both are in good shape with no checking or visible damage.  I swear the Challenger has holes in it that look like they were put there to take studs.

My bike has IRC tires, which were new when I bought it.  So, roughly 1500 miles on them.  First of all, do you recommend that I change them out, with the incumbent hassle?  Is there that much difference?Secondly, if I don't, is there a way to preserve the spare tires for when I wear out the IRCs?

Sandy, unless you are a certified go-fast peg dragger... I recommend that you get your money's worth of use out of the IRC tires before paying a lot to have other tires mounted.

And yeah, you can spray or wipe the spare tires with a silicone lube to help preserve them for later replacement use.
