Clear tubing for fuel and vacumn lines??
05/24/08 at 09:26:27

Any reason why one couldn't run CLEAR tubing for the fuel line and vacumn hose?

Seem's it might be easier to see what's going on.

I used some see-through yellow tubing for my vac line.  Seems to be working just fine so far.

Colored transparent fuel line used to be popular in the 1960's. It came in red, clear and blue tint, as I remember it.  The problem with it was that it did not hold up well to heat and fuel, and in time it became brittle and faded.  Furthermore, it split open easily upon impact, especially when it became brittle. Then there is the question of how will it hold up against the ethanol that is now being added to your gas.  When ethanol was first introduced into some gasolines years ago, the braided fuel lines of the time were softening from the insides and rupturing and/or collapsing as a result of the ethanol.   Harley Davidson began replacing their fuel hose with the newer type that is sold today.  Personally I use the best quality high pressure fuel injection hose for all my fuel hose needs.  The Savage doesn't produce fuel pressure as it is gravity fed, but for the $1.00 more it will cost you, why not use the strongest fuel hose available..just in case of an accident and subsequent impact?

Indubitably, Gort.  I only used it on the vac line.  If any gas or ethanol or other nastiness appears, I'll know there's a problem that needs fixed.  At that time, the hose gets replaced too.  If all goes well, that line will never be exposed to fuel, just air.

My fuel line is that heavy-walled black stuff that takes two men and a strong boy to bend into place.

the hose is usualy black (or coloured), for one very good reason.
clear pipe lets in light, and light (especially direct sunlight plus liquids leads to bugs breeding, even in petrol.

that's why fuel hoses are black and inpentrable to them nasty UV's.

I would never use anything but black hoses.

Doesn't the transparent plastic of a 2 inch long in-line fuel filter kind of negate the anti-bug breeding properties of a 6 inch long black fuel line?

An in-line fuel filter like you describe is designed to prevent particulate matter from passing through the filter element into the carburetor.    There is no insect small enough to pass through a filter element.  Except perhaps Borg Nano-Probes, but you would have to go to the Delta Quadrant to find them.

Without an auxiliary tank, I don't think I have the range to get past the Beta quadrant.  Rats.

No problem.  You just need to wait until a trans warp conduit opens, the next time the Borg try to attack Earth.  I sit outside every night on my Savage wearing my S.T. uniform, waiting for them.  I'm ready.

I look at it this way, it was better than no ST at all.  The special effects weren't bad and T'Pol had a nice body.
