Hello out there. First off, thanks for taking the time to read my post...I just bought this bike last week and I love it, well I think I will, it's not quite up to road worthy yet. It had sat for the previous year and prior to that year it was parked outside down in florida about a mile from the ocean. '96 w/ 8,200 miles, only twelve hundred dollars into so far...So here is the problem: I think it's either running too lean or not getting enough spark when I open it up. At idle it seems to run fine, although you can hear it missing fairly regularly, once you give it about 2,000rpm she starts backfiring mildly, pops a lot, exhaust pipe seems to get extemely hot very quickly-(normal?). Once I take it past about two thousand rpm she starts to die if I don't roll off. I've checked through this site already and tried about everything Icould find people have recommended, but this seems a little different. Lastly the frame cover for the cdi unit on left side is off, could this cause the problems I'm having? I don't mean the lack of cover, but I wonder if cdi would cause these problems? So far we've done the usuall tune up plus cleaned the carb (not rebuilt) clean coil connection, checked vac hose from petcock to carb, valve lash adj., decomp checked, petcock checked-filter clean but we didn't tear it apart. Thanks again for reading through this, and any help would be greatly appreciated!!!At this point I would rather just take it to the shop, but I'm not financially able to dump 80bucks an hour just for labor.
