Hey guys,
Just a quick question, I hope someone may be able to answer. I am relatively new to riding. I just recently purchased a 2000 savage. I thought it was a great deal. I'm still happy with it, I am just not sure if transmission work has been done on it.
I looked to find that this bike is supposed to have a 5spd transmission, though I it only seems to have 4 gears that I can get into. I have taken the bike up to about 70 mph and have noticed that it does still seem to have power left. I was wondering if it was possible that it was changed to a older 4spd transmission. I know the older savages came this way.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(I know that sounds like talking to a three year old, but I have done this a couple of times forgetting I was already in first and trying to shift up five times.)

(Most cruisers do.) Don't worry, you can wind it out. It won't hurt it. May tickle the heck out of your hands. Several of us switched to a chain drive that gives us a little better spread on the gears. Look it up in the tech section if your interested.

Posts: 233 Los Angeles, CA Gender:	Re: Newbie Question Reply #7 - 05/19/08 at 13:10:44 Just in case you find yourself trying to shift up into fifth when youre already there, there is sometimes a false neutral above fifth you should be wary of. If it happens, just upshift again and it should be fine.
