Sportster Seat
05/18/08 at 08:26:24

After riding a few hour + rides here lately I have come to realize that I hate the stock seat on my 97 Savage. I am a big guy 6'2 250 lbs if that helps.

So I have seen that a lot of people like their Sportster seat. Having scouted ebay they don't look to expensive. I was curious though which one everyone is getting. From the pictures it looks like the 03+ model but I want to make sure.

Also those Mustang seats look real nice but I don't know if I want to spend $150 on a seat. Any hints or opinions would be awsome.

I think those low prices are for the rear seat only.

Yeh but it's not answering my question. Which years version is everyone using so I know which one to pickup.

Bought one on Ebay and got it today.  So, I should not expect it to be more comfortable than the OEM seat? :'(

What is a reasonable and of course comfortable pad to put on the Sportster seat?

Is reasonable and comfortable an oxymoron?

It really depends on your ergonomics.

The sportster seat is an improvement, it just not a beat all.

I suspect that shorter people or those with extended pegs would find it more comfortable than tall people.

I'm 5'7" and I find it to be better than the stock seat but not alot better. I have a sheepskin seat cover that seems to absorb some on the vibrations. I'm still looking for the perfect seat.

The sportster seat is a SLIGHT improvement over stock, for the rider at least.  The passenger accomodations are spartan at best.  My wife will not ride pillion on a bike with the sportster seat.  Theres no width and no padding....

For the money, you're better off fitting an aftermarket seat such as a corbin or mustang.  I have seen a a couple where owners ordered seats for the VL800/Volusia and fitted them to the savage.  They spent over $300.00 to do it, but MAN are they comfortable!

The last option is to have the seat professionally reupholstered.  Thats what I did and I'm thrilled with the results...  Some memory foam, saddle gel and reshaped stock foam make a world of difference.

As my grandpa used to tell me when I was a kid, "boy there are 2 ways to do things.  The cheap a$$ way and the right way.  Don't ever let me catch you cheaping out.."
