handlebar adjustment
05/05/08 at 09:24:02

Quick question for anyone willing to help, I'm new to this site and I tried searching for this with no luck. I would like to adjust my handlebars a bit but I'm not sure how to get the caps off of the hex/allen bolts without gumming them up. Didn't know if there was an easy way to do it.
thanks

They pry up pretty easily if you use a small screwdriver to get  under one side.  I long finger nail may even work.  They are only held in place by friction inside the allen head of the bolt.

I just had mine off last week. The key is patience. If you can get it started just a little with a fingernail, then you can work a thin object under them and lift. Work your way around each caps, lifting from several positions.

Cheer up.

Getting them back on is a snap.  Grin

However, you might want to leave the caps in a baggie in your tool box until you are certain that you have the bars where you want them.

Don't ask me how I came by this pearl of wisdom.

I should have the bandaid off my finger in next few days.

I always start mine by sliding a razor blade up underneath them.
