Jack_650, what did you have to do to adapt the V-star seat to the Savage?  Looks like that bike is set up for Iron Butt runs.  How many miles are on it?

I got my 2k Savage a couple years ago with 9k miles on it. Now it's approaching 23k miles. And since we only have about five months of decent to half decent driving conditions up here it should be obvious that there's been some hard core, long mileage trips made. There's two trips from southern MN to Miami, FL and back as well as one from MN to N. Carolina and back.

The V-Star seat was medium easy to put on with the stock gas tank in place. With the Harley tank in place the front is even higher than the stock seat with the lift mod and it sits a bit further back. Since I've not wanted to give up my rear seat, the back of the V-Star seat sits up on the front of the back seat a bit making it even higher.

To mount the V-Star seat I made a squared off flat "U" shaped bracket that I pop riveted/construction adhesived to the bottom of the seat. I bent the seat mounts on the frame upwards perpendicular to the ground. Then you bolt through the bracket and the bolt holes in the frame mounts. I used the glue to hold the bracket in place while I trial-&-errored the placement relationship to the frame tabs, held in place with a couple of handy ratchet tie down straps. I use nuts and bolts to hold the seat which is tricky the first couple of times you need to pull the seat. Once you do it a couple times it's a snap, pudgy fingers and all.

Just got word from the e-bay seller about the tank I won. It was shipped yesterday. So I should have it in a few days.

Me too.  It's between the Softail and Road King for me.  Can't wait to see his progress on this one.

Received the Road King tank today. Will trial fitting it to an 87 frame either Sunday evening (when I get off work) or Monday before I actually install it on my 2000.

Just got done mocking the 87 frame with the Road King tank. Ya'll ain't gonna believe how easy this is gonna be to mount to the FireLizard.

Only mod I am really gonna have to do to the FireLizard is cut off these little doohickies and drill a hole.

The tank sitting on the 87 frame. Sorry about how dark the pics are, my garage ain't exactly well lighted.

Space between front of tank and neck. As you can see it's practically the same amount of space as between the stock tank and neck.

Side view with seats on. Front seat rides a little on the back of tank but all that does is give the seat mod we all talk about. Once again, sorry about how dark the pics are.

Another side view.

Top view with seat. (seat shifted a bit before I could get the picture)

I will have to make some spacers for the front as the tangs that the bolt will go through is wider than the FireLizard's back bone. Other than that the mod looks pretty much to be a straight forward swap. Even the seat bolt holes line up to the original mounting points.

Will try to get some better pics later but hopefully these will give you an idea.

That is great news!  I was wondering how it would look on the frame.  What about the petcock and connections to the carb?  Same side & close enough for hoses?

rpg, Yes, the petcock and fuel lines are on the same side and I should have no problem with it. (I still need to get a petcock, fuel caps, and something to seal up that big center hole)

Gary, clearance on the head looks to be okay just by eye balling it, will know for certain of course when I mount it on the FireLizard. Right now it is just sitting on an 87 frame that I use for mock ups of this sort. But I foresee no problems with head clearance. I may end up having to take tank off to get to spark plug like I had to do before I removed the chrome covers.

skatnbnc, not gonna leave the sheriff decals, I'm gonna repaint the entire bike after I finish with my major mods which still include a 42in (from top triple tree to axle) springer, and a special idea I have for a seat.

All,

I will try to get some better pics today so they will be easier to see.

Just took a second look at the tank on the 87 frame, there will be NO PROBLEM with head clearance.

In the process of making a cap for that center hole.
