Mine did the same thing last fall. The vacuum hose had about a million cracks in it. You couldn't see them with a visual inspection, but when you put it under water, plugged one end and filled the other with air, it looked like an aquarium bubbler.
Just get a length of fuel line from the autoparts store (I needed so little, the guy didn't charge me for it). The fuel line is thicker than the stock hose, so you'll have to do away with the spiral cage thingy, but the walls are thicker and will last longer than the rather thin walls of the OE vacuum line.
