I finally re-jetted

I have been having a great time with the bike.  Great mpg but I knew it was running very lean.  Exhaust  header was bluing up badly plus I still had some backfiring on decceleration and when cutting off the engine.  So I went and got a 155 main and a 52.5 pilot.  Installed them and redialed the idle back down.  I still have a sliver of the white spacer.  I'll let ya'll know how we're doing in a few days.

Tommorrow is my son's day to get his bike...a kawa 250 Ninja...

And I get to ride it home! (Oh my aching back!) Smiley

Congrats on the rejet.  Also, let us know your thoughts on the Ninja 250.  I've heard a lot of good things about them and been thinking of maybe adding one to the stable one day.  Curious to know what someone riding a Savage thinks when he gets on one.

That Kawa 250 has a decent riding position, I think. I want one, I am sure of that. Cheap, high MPG, just gotta be fun as all get out( whatever THAT means) in the turns.

I rode one for my msf course and well...

Really touchy throttle, hard to keep below 3-4k rpm
Stalls out below 3-4k rpm (granted, I was a first-timer)
Relatively heavy for a 250cc
I dont really like the headlight design for anything older than 2008
Buzzy sounding exhaust
Nice high end
Very good stopping distance
Decent riding position, though at the end of the 2 days of riding, my shins and calfs were bruised from banging into the footpegs while walking the bike

all in all, I would not buy one, despite their being cheap and available. But, different strokes for different folks.

Well the Ninj is interesting.  Very low torque.  The design has traded torque for rpms.  Nothing really happens until around 3k.  Then off it goes.  It was very strange to be running at 60 mph and turning 7k rpms.  This bike has an aftermarket exhaust and it sounds good.  Riding position is ok...sorta like being a jockey on a racehorse.  I will tell you I was sure glad to get back on the Savage....seemed like heaven after riding 90 miles.  It is my son's first bike.  It will go from 0-afterlife fast enough...He loves it, and if it means I don't have to drag him all over the place anymore...all I can say is "YIPPEE!"  It is a 2005 with 3k miles...looks new and has no leaks that I can see.
